FAQ

  • Is Chiropractic safe?

Yes! Chiropractic is VERY safe. You may have heard of stroke-risk when visiting a Chiropractor. The data tells us stroke-risk related to manipulation of the neck is extremely rare at 1 in 6 million. Before any neck adjustments our Chiropractor will assess you for any risk-factors and get your consent before proceeding.

  • Do Chiropractors only treat the spine?

No! Spinal injuries are some of the most common injuries seen in practice and historically have been a strong point for Chiropractors but are not the only conditions they treat. Here at Smart Health and Performance we are able to treat pretty much any musculoskeletal injury, and if we can’t help you we will refer you to someone who can.

  • What is the 'crack' or 'pop' sound?

The ‘crack’ sound from an adjustment is not your bones cracking, but instead tiny gas bubbles in the joints between your bones; just like when people crack their knuckles.

This helps to reduce pain, increase mobility and help restore normal function at the area.

  • Do I need a referral?

Chiropractors are primary health practitioners in Australia, meaning you don’t need a referral from your GP, we do however accept medicare rebated EPC care plans.

  • Is Chiropractic private-health rebateable?

    Short answer: Yes

Long answer: It depends on your cover.
Chiropractic is usually covered under private health ‘extras’, so please check with your private health provider beforehand to avoid unexpected costs.

  • Are Chiropractors registered health practitoners?

Yes! Chiropractors in Australia must undertake a minimum of 5 years University training/education. Once graduated Chiropractors must register with AHPRA - the Australian Allied Health governing body.
